Philosophy of Teaching
I believe in a student-centered approach to teaching that focuses on drawing out the individual talents of the student, thereby empowering them to take control of their own learning. A “one-size-fits-all” approach to teaching in the arts can be detrimental to any classroom, and it is my goal to provide access to the arts for all students by collaborating with the student on achieving their own personal goals, as well as broadening their base of knowledge and strengthening their critical thinking skills. With an emphasis on the process rather than product alone , students can learn to take greater risks, and begin to develop a personal technique that they can continue to build upon for a lifetime. By creating a collaborative and caring community in the classroom, students can be emboldened to engage the world around them with a more compassionate and empathetic viewpoint.
